Central DeWitt Names Matt Ohnemus as Head Wrestling Coach, Adam Grell Joins staff as Assistant

DEWITT, Iowa -- Matt Ohnemus, varsity assistant wrestling coach at Central DeWitt the past seven seasons, has been named as head coach for the Sabers. Ohnemus replaces Ed Vance, who stepped down from the position last month to take on a volunteer role within the program.
During his time as assistant at Central DeWitt, Ohnemus helped coach three IHSAA state tournament place winners, 14 state tournament qualifiers and 24 district qualifiers. The Sabers also just completed one of the most successful seasons in program history, finishing 16-5 in dual meet competition.
A standout wrestler for the Sabers in 1997-2001, Ohnemus was a 2001 IAHSAA state tournament qualifier and Big Bend Conference Champion at 145 lbs. He completed his career at Central DeWitt as a Top 10 winningest wrestler in program history.
Ohnemus is currently an instructional coach for the Central DeWitt Community School District. He and his wife, Heather, have a daughter, Eloise.

Central DeWitt School Board also approved former Saber grappler Adam Grell as new assistant coach for the wrestling program.
A 2002 graduate of Central DeWitt, Grell was 2002 IHSAA State Tournament Runner-up at 135 lbs. after placing sixth during his sophomore campaign at 119 lbs. One of only two individuals in this history of the Big Bend Conference with four championships, Coach Grell still holds many records for the Sabers. His 131 career wins remains second-most in program history.
Following his career on the mat, he served on wrestling staff for Clinton High School and 3A powerhouse Bettendorf High School, in addition to a year coaching at Central DeWitt in 2008-09.
Coach Grell joins a staff that already includes former Division I wrestler and Northern Iowa Panther Andy Kruse, previous Central DeWitt head coach Ed Vance, past North Scott standout and 2-time place winner Greg Green, and 1983 State Champion for Central DeWitt Don Salyars.
